Hi guys!
Today I wanted to talk about my experience with Body Pump.
What is Body Pump?
Body Pump is a gym class found in many gyms (eg: Virgin Active) which offers you the ability of learning how to use a bar and weights. It is usually done in a studio where you have a bar, weights and a bench. You do lots of squats, biceps curls, lunges etc. It looks scary but everyone has to be a beginner at some point and no one will judge your ability. No matter how much weights you can put on the bar, the workout will be intense and will burn approximately 550 calories an hour!
My Experience
I have done for 2 months once or twice per week. The first class felt awful and I felt it for the next four days and I could barely walk. However after the third class, my body got used to it and I didn't feel those cramps after the workouts anymore. I went to the morning classes before school and/or to the evening classes.
I got stronger and slowly increased the weights. I now use weights I thought I would never be able to use. It's incredible how your body can get stronger in an hour and burn so many calories.
I did not loose any weight however I decently saw change in my body. I still have a lot of work to do on my upper body but the results were impressive in legs and arms.
Who is it for?
I won't lie to you about how hard it is. It is quite challenging and requires a lot of work therefore I wouldn't recommend it to people with major injuries. However I have seen pregnant women there doing adaptations of the movements, even though I wouldn't personally recommend it. So my answer is everyone capable of it. It doesn't matter whether you are new or experienced at working out, it is there to help you get stronger and not to compete with others in the class.
In conclusion, it has been life changing and I feel awful when missing a class!
Stay positive and strong,
Doriane xx
